Summer Session 2020

Based on the high degree of student interest, Menlo College will be offering a summer school session this academic year. It will run from May 18-August 7, 2020.  Given the current circumstances concerning Shelter-In-Place in San Mateo County and the lack of certainty about what the situation and policy will be this summer, Menlo will be running the summer session entirely online.

The courses we plan to offer, subject to sufficient enrollment and instructor availability, are as follows:

Classes will meet either once or twice per week. Attendance will be required. Students who are working or in different time zones, must obtain permission from the instructor to make alternative arrangements (e.g. watch recording and complete additional requirements as determined by the instructor). Students must have video on during class, unless they obtain permission from the instructor to do otherwise. Students must also have reliable access to WiFi and a computer.

Because of requirements for state authorization for distance education, students who register for online courses at Menlo this summer must be physically located in California, Hawaii, Washington, or outside of the United States from May 18-August 7. Students residing in one of the other 47 states should contact their academic advisor to see if a state authorization waiver can be obtained for that state. The maximum number of units allowed during the summer is 9 units. Additional units require Academic Affairs approval. The Office of the Registrar will send out an email when summer registration is available with instructions.

As noted in the student survey, tuition for summer 2020 will be reduced by 50% to $916 per credit hour ($2,748 per three-credit hour course). You are required to pay tuition and fees in full at the time of the registration request, out of pocket or with financial aid. A $75 late registration fee will apply if both payment and registration request is not completed by the first day of class. $75 late registration fee will apply if both payment and registration request is not completed by April 30th for internship.

A minimum enrollment of 6 units is required to be eligible for summer financial aid. Please complete a summer financial aid application prior to registering for classes if you plan to use any available Pell grant, federal student loans, federal parent PLUS loan, California Grant, Veterans education benefits, or private loans.

On-campus housing is available this summer, beginning May 16. Please complete the application HERE before April 24. Note that while Menlo is planning to offer housing at this point in time, this arrangement is subject to change depending on further restrictions for COVID-19 Shelter-in-Place.

Your Academic Advisor is ready to help you select and register for summer classes. Please reach out to your advisor, or schedule an appointment via youcanbookme to discuss your summer selections and how summer classes may impact your graduation plan.

If you have questions, please contact Director of Academic Affairs Operations Cindy McGrew at cmcgrew@menlo.edu.
