How Does Menlo College Define A Transfer Student?

A transfer applicant is any student who has attended a post-secondary institution following graduation from high school with the following exceptions– 1) students who attended a post-secondary institution for the first time in the summer prior to attending Menlo and 2) students who earned college credits prior to high school graduation.

Transfer Requirements

Transfer Admissions Application

We encourage you to get started by completing the Menlo College Transfer Application to fast-track your admissions decision. You are also welcome to apply using the Common Application.

Personal Essay

Please submit a personal essay of at least 250 words addressing your reasons for seeking a college education, expectations of a college education and reasons for applying to Menlo College.

Recommendation Letter

Please submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher or a counselor. The letter may be submitted electronically via email, or sent by mail.

Official Transcripts

Transfer applicants must submit official college transcripts. Transcripts may be submitted via electronic transcript service like Parchment or eScrip, or sent by mail. Applicants who have not completed at least 12 transferable academic semester credit hours (18 quarter credits) must also submit high school transcripts.

We welcome unofficial transcripts for preliminary assessment via email, but will require official copies if you are admitted.

Application Fee

The $40 fee may be paid online at the time of application, or you can mail the non-refundable application fee to the Admissions Office. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Menlo College. You may be eligible to receive an application fee waiver. Please contact admissions@menlo.edu to find out.


Articulation Agreements and Transferring Credits

Menlo College has developed articulation agreements with many California community colleges. Students do not need to complete all courses listed before transferring to Menlo College; however, the articulation agreements will help you to select courses that meet Menlo’s general education requirements. Transferring Your Credits

Students may transfer a maximum of 70 lower division semester credits (105 quarter credits) and 24 upper division semester credits (36 quarter credits). However, students must complete a minimum of 30 units in their major at Menlo College, and must be enrolled at Menlo College during the last two semesters prior to graduation.

Menlo will accept transfer credit for the Spring 2020 term for CR or P grades.

Credits from Non-Traditional Sources

Menlo College evaluates credit from several sources, including Advanced Placement Exams, International Baccalaureate Exams (higher level only), CLEP, and military education and experience.
